When skilling up cooking, I got HQs on skillups all the time. It was only ever on juices, though. So annoying.

I only remember two that were worth mentioning from all my levels of Crafting.

I used to have Cooking 100 and while I was at 91 I made a HQ Tonosama Rice Ball (Shogun Rice Ball) which caps at 94.

Tavnazian Salad 92 Cap. When these first came out I was the first to list the Leremieu Salad. I was such a happy noob. ;p


My HQ luck on any tier is horrid. Getting a HQ while skilling up on something that has no HQ result is SE rubbing in my horrid luck.

I guess I got lucky... I got 3 HQs while skilling up on Jester's headbands from Cloth 80-81. Naturally, those 3 HQs paid for my entire level and then some.

I have gotten some hq results while skilling, the most notable being Dance Shoes +1 (paid for all my dance shoes losses, since I got two of them).


While leveling gold, I got a few HQ animations while synthing the lvl 75 Bead rings, but of course, I don't think the HQ exists in the game yet.

I've gotten a few HQ1 and HQ2 with desynthing (Still getting skill points for the particular bonecraft level as well) which I thought was cool. But on a normal bone synth, I have not had a single occurence.

Cooking on the other hand ... seems to follow a different set of rules. But in the case of Krynn, I'm willing to bet that your clothcraft levels did something it shouldn't have done if the leather recipe didnt' require skill in the cloth. That is, it contributed to your chances. Thus, since it's (I'm assuming) really high, it kicked in and you got two HQ synths in a row. And then again later for other leather recipes.

I'm 99.9 cooking, just did a Cursed Soup (100) synth on watersday full moon 100% and got an HQ animation. No support or chef's hat or anything. Make of that what you will.

Yeah, I know, not the best time to try for skillups, but I only need .1 so I was just synthing the jelly as it dropped.

Managed to HQ a nodowa while skilling -.- ended up giving the thing away as no-one would buy it. HQ's during skilling do happen but as stated in some of the previous post amazingly rare so its not even worth doing an expensive synth in the hope the HQ during skilling

Maybe i should think about skilling on stuff that has an hq rather than consumables from now on...

I have never gotten a skill up HQ synth yet but i have gotten many HQ desynths that i was not anywhere near the skill cap.

I'd suggest playing around with a lower level synth, to test what skill up rates are like when image support pushes your effective skill above the recipe's cap. If you find the skill up rates are still acceptable, then I'd suggest giving this approach a try. However, if image support doesn't get you up to or beyond the cap, I don't suggest this approach. I'm not convinced that the HQ rate below recipe cap is anywhere near 1-2%.
