Just wondering how to get started, Im aware that you need certain materials plus crystals to make stuff, but how do you get started? If you take blacksmithing do you only make stuff at the shop (or forge). Just hopeing for a little advice on the beginner crafter, someone completely new to the game.

Re: A newb needs help!!
it's really best to wait to start crafting until you get your main job a high level. crafting really doesn't start to pay off well until you have invested a lot of money into it...
but to answer your question, you need a crystal and the correct ingredients. you "use" the crystal like an item, and a menu will pop up. choose the correct ingredients, watch the animation sequence, and poof!! you have created an item!
there are plenty of guides floating around. try checking alakazam.com. they always have a lot of crafting guides there
but again, it's best to wait until you have a job levelled to the 60's, give or take, before starting a craft. crafting takes a TON of money to get it levelled to the point where it starts to pay off. just sell the items that monsters drop to the auction house for money. they usually sell for more than the finished product does, especially the crystals! make sure you have signet on you before leaving town, so monsters will drop crystals when you kill them.
crafting really doesn't pay off until you realch the higher levels and can HQ stuff (HQ = high quality, meaning make the +1)Last edited by aegina; 03-19-2006, 03:09 PM.

"I'm only going to level Cooking to Lv.35 so I can make my own 'ROIDS." (At the time EVERYBODY ate Mithkabobs.)
Then I went back to my main job of leveling RDM, and I was going to keep going to make my own Pies and Refresh Drinks before Lv.41. Next thing I know I'm at Cooking Lv.60. But I'm done with Cooking, and I mean it this time! My Cooking's been "Capped" Blue for a long time. I just wanna get a few GP items and then I'm moving onto another Craft.
As for the comment of not even bothering about starting a craft until you're High level.... I kinda disagree. I didn't really start leveling much in the way of any craft until I was Lv.45. Equipment was starting to get really expensive, and at the time all I had was Cooking Lv.11 and Clothcraft Lv.11. Now that I have a lot of jobs leveled, and a high level job, I wish I had started crafting from the jump. Maybe I would have gotten further in other crafts back when the economy was the mess it is now.
Back when I started crafting, taking Woodworking, Clothcrafting, and Cooking to Lv.15~20 wouldn't have been very expensive. But now that I'm leveling Alchemy, and Beehive chips & Beeswax are an arm and leg. Not to mention Slime oil not being too cheap either, it's much more expensive to skill.
I'd say farm most of your items if you can, and then try to find something you can synth for a profit to help make up the loses you're going to have regardless.Odude
