New to tradeskills

Im not sure on how to start tradeskilling.

I have a few questions

How do you put items together to tradeskill and make new items? Is there a forage, bag, something to use?

Someone told me today (im in sandy) that i could start cooking by using stuff from the grocery there, but there was no guild, and the guild is used to progress further (im not sure how) but then also mentioned how there was something about it being conquest 3 and the stock would be crap (im not sure what any of that means but if it has an influence on my tradeskillin id like to know what its all about)

You need to join a guild in order to get skillup, as I was told.. I didn't touch crafting til I joined the guilds, so I am not sure if its true or not.

Cooking guild is in Windurst.

To craft you need to use the appropiate crystal, say for Peeled crayfish(Cap at Cooking lv3), you would have to use Wind Crystal, which will open a window for you, and like in trade, you put the amount of crayfish said in the recipe, and click ok. Your character will then sit down and do the crafting action, and when it's done, the chat log will tell you if you succeed or not.

The person is referring to some crafting items from NPC, if the country is at last of the ranking, all the NPCs sell less item than when the country is #2 or #1...

It's usually better to check some site for the recipe list, and some site even have the list of where to buy which ingredients.

You don't need to join the guilds to start crafting but you will have to go there between levels 8-10 to increase your rank in that skill to allow you to pass level 10. You have to do this every 10 levels, 8-10, 18-20, etc and pass another test which involes giving the person a spefic item they want. You're supposed to craft the item yourself but you can just buy it.
