  • Ive been thinking of starting a craft...and i think its Alchemy

Well I’ve been thinking of starting up a craft. I have fishing and cooking leveled a little, but I don’t see much profit in Cooking (nor much interest in it besides making insect paste).

I want to have a craft I can farm for a level when I don’t feel like leveling my blm. I’m wondering if Alchemy is more so a skill used for convenience rather than profit? I play mage so I have access to sneak/invis and all that. I just want to invest in a craft that I know i wont regret once i get it up there. Would Alchemy be a good choice?

Also 2 other questions that are kind of stupid but =P

1.) What Alchemy stuff can you get with the guild points?

2.) Can you make fireworks with Alchemy? I'd think yes since that’s what section they're under, but Im not sure.

Thanks to whomever who answers my questions.

Alchemy is a pretty useful craft. Produces a nice variety of gear, and a large number of consumable items (second only to cooking in this respect). Fireworks, bullets, special ammo arrowheads, medicines, silent oil, prism powder, ninjutsu powders, and more.

It isn't the most profitable craft end-game, but it's not bad either.

    As for guild items:

Caduceus, level 48+ Alchemy, 70K guild points. +1 Alchemy skill weapon.

Alchemist's Apron, level 68+ Alchemy, 100K guild points. +1 Alchemy skill body armor.

Esmeralda, level 88+ Alchemy, 150K guild points. Furniture. Unknown effect, suspect it is +1 skill as well.

Anima Synthesis, level 28+ Alchemy, 30K guild points. Allows use of anima synthesis.

actually, for a while cooking can be profitable. Prices are crashing on curry and such already, but for a while it was possible to make a good amount of cash with it if you bothered to, and sushi's insane accuracy+ is making them hot news too, not that it'll last.

alchemy is, like icemage said, another craft for consumables. The downside is that individual profits may be small; the upside is that there can still be a profit. there are always needs for alchemists when someone needs to synth the hakutaku eyes as well.

Alchemy's best time to make money would be just after new BC's that require certain potions have been implemented, so as long as you watch for that there's definitely a chance for some decent profit.
