  • Help with Harvesting

Okay, I'm a noob as should be apparent, and I am having a hard time harvesting. I've asked several different people about it and I have gotten many different answers. Which of couse, sucks.

    So, onward.

    1. What are the harvesting/mining points actually called? Are they called a "Harvesting Point" or a "Mining Point"?

    2. Do they have any distinct appearance to them that would help me to identify that it is in fact a harvesting point?

    3. Where are good places to even try? I read in the strat guide that Western Sarutarubarutaru (whatever) is a good place to start off, but having gone through it about five times I have yet to actually see anyone swinging a sickle or anything that wasn't a creature.

    4. Also according to the book, it says to hover the mouse over tall grass to find them.. I don't have a mouse. Are the points targetable like the Cracked Walls in the Horoturu Ruins? So that I can cycle through and find them by pushing left and right?

    5. Do you have to be right on top of a point to cycle to it via that route?

    6. Where are good places to start harvesting in the Windhurst area? I've been told Giddeus and W. Sar.. but again I haven't found anything.

    Thanks in advance.

I'm going to answer all your questions in one easy explanation. Go to the shop in North Windurst Waters (near the Optistery) and buy some sickles. They are about 250gil each I believe. Head out to West Saruta and go near the Outpost, but go further west towards Giddeus. The tall grass in that area has random "spawn" points for Harvesting. Just push left and right on the PS2 D-pad until you target one. It should be in green text and say "Harvesting Point". Go up to it and use the the TRADE funtion, or ITEM function to use the sickle. If you dont understand how to do this, read the manual. Your character will bend down and harvest from the harvesting point. One of 2 things will happen. You will harvest an item, or you will harvest nothing. If nothing, you can try again. If you harvest somthing, the spawn may disappear and you must look for another one. Sometimes you can get multiple items from 1 spawn if youre lucky. Your sickle may break as well when you try to harvest. Field gear helps cut down on this but I would only recommend it for mining and logging, not harvesting. (Harvesting is by far the least profitable method of gathering items)

Hope this helps. Excavation, mining, and logging work the exact same way, but you use different items. Pickaxes for excavating and mining, Hatchets for logging.
