  • Farming? Gardening? Fishing?

I'm a level 23 Monk, with a 15 Thief set aside for Treasure Hunting, and I've been wanting to take a break from the level grind to make some money for the expensive crap I'll be buying within the next 10 levels or so.

Basically, I've been dabbling in a bit of everything and unsure of what to stick with. I've been farming a little, trying to get 12 of something to sell, and usually ending up with a little bit of everything from an area - most of which isn't even worth much at the Auction House. I took a trip to Windurst to get Silk from Crawlers, which is what I'm currently doing. It's rather time consuming, considering Crawlers are relatively uncommon, and they don't drop much even with my 15THF killing them, but I'm sticking to it until I get at least 12 Silk.

I'm at level 4 in Fishing, and I have all of the Fishing gear (UNFORTUNATELY, I left it all in my Storage, and can't retrieve it from my Rent-a-roomie. GRRR!) so I could always go back home and work on fishing some more - but after a while, that bores me and I wanna do something else to make money.

I've tried a bit of gardening - I have a few pots in my house - But due to my own attention span, I end up going to Qufim or something for days and forgetting about my plants. I currently planted one Tree Cutting and I intend on watching that daily. I spent 4,000 on it, and I can get about double that for one Sapling that grows at the Windurst AH on Quetzalcoatl.

Basically, I'd just like some guidance and suggestions from people on here for what I can do at my level to make money. Aside from the silk thing, I'm never sure what to farm, and usally end up with an inventory full of junk I end up selling to an NPC to get rid of - or dropping. I don't have the mining gear, so I'm not sure if mining is a viable option for me yet, and I obviously can't afford the gear, otherwise I wouldn't be on here whining.

So what would you all recommend I do?

    Hello,
The Best way to make money is the MINING with out losing time on fighting or waiting in fishing.
Farm at low lvl is very slow & wasting time, the fishing also need lvl, BORING & see how many times your Rod will break.

Thanks, but is it worth mining without the mining gear? I hear it's recommended that you get all of that expensive equipment first.

Yes, but - as I've already mentioned in my original message - I can't really afford that stuff right now. If I could afford that, chances are, I'd be making decent money anyway, so I wouldn't be asking these question.

OK .. can you make 15K to 20K every day.
if you can then don't spend any gil for 3 to 4 days & the mining gear not so expensive (40K) .. if you don't want the mining then do what i say ,,, try to make 10 to 20K every day to buy the item you want ... somthing else ,,, i don't think you need an expensive gear at low lvl ,,, trust me ,, you can lvl up to lvl 30 with lvl 12 gear's

Well, as I was saying on here, I'm having trouble making 15-20k of Gil in one day. If I can do that, I wouldn't be ranting about it on here. If you have any suggestions on how I can go about making that money until I can afford the mining gear, please share.

And while that's optimistic of you to believe I can get to 30 with Level 12 gear, the parties I get in at Qufim may mind.

Try stacks of beechips. This is pretty good on the 2nd lvl of the mt in north gusta since a beeNM spawns there and can drop a dagger worth 7k on our server. Beechips stacks for us go 3000-3500. The bee in the highlands have a great drop rate though.

Also sheep wool stacks. Kill sheep, preferably in highlands as their droprate is better and collect the skins. Come with 1 or 2 stacks of wind crystals and craft the skins(2 skins+wind crystal) into sheep wool. The recipe is 2 skins anda wind crystal, and you shouldn't fail to much, even at 0, by 2 you'll fail almost never. If you don't fail it's 4500-5500 profit a stack depending on where you sell.

Pal mines first floor, amber and ameytht(spelling?) quadav for their quadav backplates is not bad. 600-1000 depending on when and where you sell.

As for mining, I don't like it, but it seems too float people's boat. Being a thf I like to use my TH2 and farm my gil by killing.

Also one more, switch to a new job and farm crystals and other small drops. You get crystals and raise a job at the same time. I see you're a mnk/thf, but /war would be better for grouping. So you could get war up and farm crystals, preferably fire crystals at the same time. You can do this killing orcs if you want fires, the price has risen to 2500 a stack for these everywhere, or higher.
ANYWAY BIG BEN THINK LIKE THIS ITS LIKE HEY GUYS WHY BE RACIST?? RACISM HURTS EVERYBODY ON INSIDE MAKE BIG BEN SADFACE ITS ALL ABOUT SKILLS CUZ WHEN BIG BEN HAD TO WORK ON FARM AS CHILD BEN HAD TO MAKE FARMING PT MADE OF ASIAN MAN BLACK MAN(THATS ME) MEXICAN MAN CHECHOSLOVAKIAN MAN AND IT WAS BEST FARMING PT EVER CAUSE ALL MEN HAD HQ SHOVELS AND TRACTORS AND KNOW HOW TO PLAY SO FARMING WAS QUITE GOOD

The main thing you're missing is patience. Selling odds and ends to NPCs is a good way to lose money. Instead, if you're close to a stack, check the AH and buy individuals to complete your stack, then put the whole stack up for auction.

If making money in this game were easy, everyone would have money, and it would have no value.

As for crafting, all crafts require investment (even fishing, to some degree). The concept behind crafting is sacrificing money now to improve your ability to get money later.

Mining is ok, but at level 23 you can't mine safely anywhere except Zeruhn Mines, and I think I'd rather poke out my eyes than go there.

I'm afraid I really don't have an answer for your money troubles, though - all can I do is advise you to pick a money path and stick to it. Level up to increase your farming/mining potential, or pick a craft and run with it (and be prepared to spend the time and resources to level it up).

Thanks a lot for the help, guys. I'll definately take a trip to Konschtat and whoop up on those sheep and bees. I've been killing bees all over the place in Sarutabaruta, and getting practically no beehive chips whatsoever. I guess it's true that I just have to be patient.

I also haven't updated my info lately - I actually am doing MNK/WAR now, and it's a lot more fun in groups than /THF.

                      Thanks again for your help.

                        I'll share what I know.

Since you're in the Saruta region, here's what you should target.

                        West Saruta:

Crawlers: Silks: 11k/stack , Crawler Calculus: trade 3 to npc for 600 gil

Giant Bees: Beehive Chips: 3k/stack, Honey: 1500/stack

                        Yagudos: Necklaces 200-300 each

Mangragoras (not tiny) use steal every 5 mins on a Mandy for saruta cotton (4000+/stack)

Goblin Thugs (the only goblin that drops Wild Onions) Wild onions go for 4000-5000/stack

Bird feathers go for about 1000-1500/stak if you are desperate for kills too ^^

For some quick cash and fame you can go into Horuto Ruins and kill bats for wings. NPC in San doria gives 200/2 wings, repeatable.

                        Tahrongi Canyon:

                        Saplings: Herb/Grain seeds

                        Bees: Beehive Chips and Honey

                        Crawlers: Silk

Dhamels and Elementals are too hard for a 15 THF

These are just money makers around the Windy region, and it changes in each place, but it's a start. Patience is a virtue as the mobs wont drop every time, and it can take a while to get the stacks, which is why its good to kill everything in sight.

Harvesting is something that could bring in some modest gil as well, but it can be frustrating to find the harvesting points. The sickles dont break very often, and are relatively cheap, so you dont really ~lose~ money, just time.

Avoid crafting if you want to make money, it simply will cost you much more than it makes until certain synths become available.

Not to be rude, but spending 4k on a tree cutting was a waste, as it takes 2 real life weeks to grow and it only nets you 3-4k profit, maybe less. You could have saved that money, or used it for equipment.

At my stage of the game, I still rely on traditional farming for money, and I have 220k saved right now, with above average equips on my character, plus all the spells I need, so it does work, it's just not the quickest way.

If you are more of a risktaker, NM camping might be your cup of tea. Huge profits from 1 item, but chances to get that item are rare. Sub war for voke and camp lizzy... 1 pair of boots and your money woes are over for a while.

Was it a waste? I guess you're right. I just heard wonder stories from people about these Tree Cuttings. I suppose if I was rolling in money already and I were to plant a bunch of them, it'd be a good supplementory source of income.

At any rate, farming it is. Thanks again.
