  • Price of Cooking 30-90

How much would it cost to raise cooking from 30-90?

If you wanted to do it quickly and just sell non-stackable results to vendors: 500-800k. If you do it slowly... maybe 300-600k.

It really depends. Some days I would LOSE 50k for ~1 skill point. Other days you can break even.

A lot of it has to do with what path you take with your cooking... I know that there was one 10 point range that took way over 200k to get. Leveling off navarin and rolanberry pies later on sucks due to tons of ingredients and results not stacking.

I would seriously suggest keeping cooking at 60 at most so you can get another, more profitable, craft to 90+ later on. (You can only have 40 points total about 60 for all craft skills.)

If paitient enough I doubt you'll lose much at all. I think the only thing I *had* to sell to npc was stone cheese, and that wasn't a really large amount. The whole spread of pear/pamama au lait at least breaks even, the juice sells for more than materials thereby covering costs on failures at the begining (pamama was really profitable 300/drink at least, just doesn't sell fast enough). If you bazaar pies you can usually make enough to cover losses. Moghancements go a long way to minimizing losses in failures.

See my post on Pet Food Delta ^^

From 31-39, nothing but profit, but synth on good days from 31-34 at least. For example, only on light and Lightning days (back to back) for best results. Once you reach 34, synth on any day, doesnt matter, but best skill ups on darksday.

After that, you can do pie dough for 4 levels to get ingredients for Apple Pies, but you would be lucky to break even on apple pies I imagine. The cost of making is high, and stacks sell very low. But if you sell from bazarre, you could make a profit. I believe Apple pies cap at high 40's, so your losses would be minimal.

I'm 39 cooking now, and considering I've profited from 21-29 (insect paste) and 31-39 (pet food) the total losses in getting here havent been that painful. I would guess that I've LOST less than 50k over these levels but I cant be sure since I did it over such a large amount of time. I can make slow profit off of some items, but I havent really seen huge benefits yet. Its nice to be able to make pineapple juices on the fly while using my BLM or WHM though ^^

I'd have to say if i had kept track of the amount i spent on cooking from 30 to 85, i would bet real money that i actually turned a profit. Gardening your own ingredients helps a great deal on some recipes. Just don't expect too big payoff once you get there. goldsmiths, smiths, and alchemists my level will make overnight the same amount of gil that would take me weeks.
