1. 1 1/2 months all together.

2. I'd say 3/5 of my carps were bought with money made from catching Nebimonites. I wanted to be able to fix my Carbon rods, which IMO, aside from Lu Shang's, was the best rod to catch Moat Carp if you could fix it, so I leveled up my Alchemy. I got to a point where I realized by cheer chance that I could HQ a lot of Black Ink out of the Nebimonites I caught, so I decided to fund part of my Lu Shang rod that way. For every stack of Nebimonites I caught, I made 20K Gil worth of Black Ink with lvl 50 Alchemy, considering that I bought all the other ingredients. In essence, each stack of Nebimonites afforded me 5 stacks of Moat Carp.
The rest of the Moat Carp I fished for was in Saruta Lake, Windurst and Zeruhn.

3. I used Carbon rod + Insect paste.

I started my quest when I was at level 56 fishing.
