Cooking Guild Point Question

This might have been asked before.

OK: Im a lvl 29 cook and I am a novice. When I ask to buy something with guild points it shows me a bunch of odd crystals (ex. Torrent Crystal)

So... what are these, what do they do, and why would I want to buy them?

The crystals can be used with synthing to sign an item, putting your name on it. I'm not quite sure what the point would be for cooking though lol. As a clothcrafter I don't even bother, as anything good I make I generally AH, which loses the signature anyways. As you get higher though you can get better things. At 48 the cook's hat opens up, which looks cool and gives +1 cooking. 68 is the tabard, and 88 is the furniture.

I think it's body armor/wear. RDM AF body is Warlock's Tablard.
