  • Crafting: Profit and Fun

I know this has probably been asked 3,000 times, but please bear with me, at the very least link me to some other posts.
I am interested in picking up a craft, however I am down to around 7k. The two things I am looking for is profitability and fun(as in:lack of frustration, feeling of acomplishment)
I was considering fishing, but I am hearing it can take 2-3 days to see gains at times.
My other choice would be smithing, but it seems rather expensive :/
    Any suggestions?

    Fishing

why? fishing is almost 100% profit. once you get a good rod, you pretty much just pay for the bait and the rest is money in your pocket. it is definately slower than the other craft skills, but with 7k to start up you won't get anywhere fast in a tradeskill and would probably level up faster (while making more money) with fishing.

with fishing if you are willing to put in the patience, you WILL be rewarded in the end, I have no doubts about that. Hell, while leveling up my own fishing from 0 to just 11 I made a good 70k from catching moat carps and it took me a few days (though I fished a lot).. it's nice being able to realize profits right off the bat, even if it takes time.

The other problem with fishing is that i need to get to Windhurst...
      and I'm in Sandoria.
Thanks for confirming that. Seems I will be a fisherman after all.
Do I have to go to the fishing guild before I start..or at any point?
I am thinking that I could buy a Mithran Rod and use little worms.
Not sure if I can afford it though.

you don't need to goto Windurst until you reach skill 10. at that point you have to turn in the fish to raise your skill cap to 20, and so on every 10 levels, it's actually doable at 8, and then every 10 levels after that of fishing. the first fish you turn is a moat carp

and although you don't necessarily need to start in windy, it is the best place to start out in because it is very easy to begin by catching moat carps using little worms and then eventually insect paste. you can make good money starting off like this because moat carps sell for aroudn 4k a stack and aren't too hard to get

I'm in Sandy right now at 2.1 skill
Taking forever to level it up now, I have the gloves and planning to get the boots.
I think at around 4 skill I am gonna head to selbina and try out my sakti rig on some sardines.

All crafting skills take "forever" to increase. The crystal skills are faster, though everyone I've known who's taken up a craft has always been disappointed by how slow they seem to increase. Then they set their sights on distant goal and the skill just seems to fly by.

all skills (fishing not included) seem to go by fast to lvl50 after that I atleast have noticed a huge slowdown in skillgains.. only got one craft over 50 but suppose this is the case with all crafts...

my first craft was cooking. really never lost much money. seemed like i always made out even, or came a head with some gil. early synths were easy, with items being cheap an very easy to obtain. i think in a week of on an off crafting i got it to 45. an in my op one of the easiest crafts to get high skill in..

                  I particularly like fishing now.
Very simple, very few materials needed and it pays for itseld very quickly. Would be better if i were a WHM admittedly, but i can walk. I am hoping to do some hardcore fishing once i get my new PC together ^^
                  see ya in port sandy.

Yep fishing is cool. You should have started with a sabaki rig on sardines first, to tell the truth, not profitable, but good for skill... then get to 10 on moat carps, those are good, go over to windy turn in a moat carp then get ONE more level on moat carp. The best time to get XP would be while or after it rains, a full moon/ new moon, and watersday... there's not a very big chance. Also I make insect balls on Midgarsormr if you interested ^^...

When you hit 11 you can keep catching moat carp (Very Slim chance of xp because of Gold Carp) or head over to sandy and fish in the cheaval river... again.. not profitable, but good for skill. When you get 18ish you can start fishing uhhh Neblimonites (Or something like that) for 18k per stack, they're really good.

Also, the time between casts decreases as you level goes up... youll notice that, youll also notice that the price of the paid guild support goes up ><

WARNING THIS IS NOT A RUMOR EVEN THOUGH PEOPLE SAY IT IS!!

If you fish for a few hours at a time, make sure you zone through two zones. Why you ask? Because Square put in an anti fishing bot code that makes it damn near impossible to catch fish. So every hour or so just run through a couple of zones then come back.

Hope this helps... wow that was sorta long...
Didn't mean to write that much, lol... Good Luck
