How is cooking profitable?

I've leveled cooking to 50 now, and I still cannot find anything to make that is worth the time. I am willing to up my skill some more, but does anyone have any ideas or should i just change crafts.

Insect Paste, Apple Pies, Mith kabobs, Fish Kabobs, Roast Mushrooms and Goblin Chocolate. The last is catching on.


If you want something that will make you huge amounts of money per item, cooking will never get you there. If you want something that has a decent profit margin and sells fast, cooking has lots of them.

pretty much the only way cooking is profitable is if u make items like insectpaste kabobs and such for own use... will save u some gil but not really worth the trouble to sell it of....

cooking is the easiest and cheapest skill to lvl to 50 atleast and u get returns by same meassurement..

Doesn't insect paste have a high return per item? They're 9.8 gil each to make, and sell for a 33 gil each? That's a large profit margin, for a small net gain, but they do sell fast. Consider them AH stuffers. Or a bazaar in the right place will sell out quickly if competition allows.

Smithing and goldsmithing both net high income gains per item. LOADS of gain if you mine the materials yourself. Leathercraft also does pretty good too.

That said, what's the cheapest, most efficient route to skilling up to insect paste level? I wasted a ton of gil on boiled eggs Only reason I want to level cooking is for bait and pet food.

well insect paste can be bretty good return yes but they can be a pain in the ass to get rid of.... just 12 synts and u'r already almost double your ah slots and return is in my eyes good % but not good enough gil for that

the thing with least loss up to 5 or 6 then sliced sardines to 11 and then I went with the guide...
