  • Clothcrafting (or other crafts?) is there a point where you make profit?

Say with clothcrafting (or if there's another craft that's easier/cheaper), will you ever hit a point after an amount of investment where you can just craft an make profit? With or without farming for the stuff you need? At what point is this?

I'm saying is there at least a point where you only made 1000 gil profit on the item but you could keep doing it for the next 10 years... and of course does the profit get bigger from there?

I'm looking to make a craft my main income (of course I will have to get the initial gil the hard way, farming etc).

    Is it worth it basically?

When you're at a level where you can make a Field/Fisherman Tunica and the HQ versions as well, then it's worth it.

Say I managed to make 5 million gil in the game,
would it be better to just use it on the items/armor/spells I need, or invest into a craft and then make even more gil?

Unless you're trying to get godly armor (Scorp Harness, Peacock Charm, etc.) I'd craft for a while, then you can start making a profit at later levels and make a ton of money.

if you like a steady flow of money start crafting. it's an investment, but in the long term it pays off.

If you farm for what you need then anything you get is profit (although selling the raw materials might make you more). Plus farming for your own materials can give you something to do while you're trying to find a party.

yup, painfully slow farming some materials (no /thf sub) But people seem to not realize that anything you craft with farmed materials is pure profit.

I dunno, it can be debated that the time spent on farming sometimes can be used to make even more craft skill ups or able to make more money that way by making more items...>.> guess it depends on the drop rate of the material and the item your making.

For quick, and relatively reliable income, you need at least 40+ skill in the equipment crafting guilds ( not cooking or fishing). To make HQ items regularly ( as in within reason.. not every time) you need to be 40 points above the skill required for the item, and you need adv. image support. Then you can make decent money on very low lvl stuff like the below lvl 10 +1 gear.

If you get one of the skills above 80, you can make RSE and other high demand, high profit items ( especially with a HQ synth). Thats where the BIG money is. I know some high lvl ( 80+) crafters and they can rake in as much as 2 mil a day. Sometimes more. And thats for all the equipment guilds.

It depends on what your idea of good money is. At cloth 82 I can make 50 or so a day without too much work. I wouldn't call this huge money but it's ok. Sadly doesn't cover what I put in to get there, though I guess over 3-4 months it will.

If you work hard you can make profits after around 30-40 on cloths, but it won't be more than 10-20k a day, though it's minimal work. Desynths have been nerfed such that they are hardly worthwhile, even on gigas socks. Sure every now and then I get 8 threads, but most of the time they just break, even with moghancement desynth. At 2500 a sock it's rare I make more than a few k off of 6 socks.

HQ items are good money, but the only ones that make real money need skill of 90+, and even then sell slowly most of the time. I've had federation gloves up well over a week, and well under listing price each time I have to relist, and they simply don't sell, so it's hard to find things that will move.

This may work for a craft like alchemy where you can make high value consumables like icarus wings, but I'll say for clothcrafting it's not going to happen. Even if you can make Royal Cloaks for a 1-1.5 mil profit, they take 1-2 weeks to sell... not to mention tie up 3 mil in capital. Ugh.

You can make good enough money, but it's slow. Don't let tales of 2 mil profit a night fool you.

I've studied just about every item, and so many get skilled up on by other crafters that you're lucky to break even much less profit. Even gear like raesetsu and errant sells under cost.

On the other hand, if someone has found things to make money on past 80, I'd love to hear from you. ^^

I dont know if Clothcraft is the same - but I do know in Smithing selling Ingots/Sheets nearly always gets you some profit.

Selling things that higher level crafters need, but don't want to take the time to make themselves, is a good way to make some small profit.

When does cloth show SOME profit?

Im lvl 22 (just finished maxing from yag fltchs) and nothing seems profitable ( i do farm my own materials, ive never bought anything from the AH aside from some wind crystals) I mean, i can sell cotton and yag feathers raw for more money.

I understand i AM making a profit since i farm my own materials and sell the product, but its not worth it, i could just buy the stuff from the AH and break even..

You'll have the ability to make profit around 35 or so on cloths. However, nothing that will skill you up will make you profit past wool cloths. In fact, you will lose money massively past 52.
