  • What is the best way to break Mithran rod?

Right now my plan is to fish on ferry with meatballs. Any better suggestions?

    That'll do it nicely.

Why would you want to intentionally break a mithran fishing rod? If you're thinking about using it to level woodworking, let me be the first to discourage you - you can very easily lose the broken rod on a failed repair attempt.

The only rod I believe that is immune to failures is Lu Shang's Fishing Rod (at least I would HOPE it would be).

It's for the opo-opo quest. I used a minnow, but meatballs should do swell. In the worst case, you'll lose your catch over and over and run out of meatballs, or break line instead of the rod, but you can get more minnows at the ship's guild shop.
        Warning level cat face.

Well first off, losing a broken mithran rod to synthing is actually a lot cheaper than losing some of the other ingredients that are used to level up woodworking around that level. Second, Lu Shang's rod is most definitely breakable. The only place I know of is on the ferry though. The Mithran rod can break anywhere arrowwood logs can be fished. Jugner forest is an example of this. Oh, and a great place to find out more place to break a Mithran rod (and a bunch of other great fishing info) is Fishermanrods.net.

Read what he wrote, he said Lu Shang combine was unfailable, not that the rod is unbreakable.

Looks like I did misread that, and it does indeed seem like Lu Shang's is impossible to lose on a failed synth. However, I might be interpreting this wrong:

              http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/polnews/news1591.shtml

Several features concerning the chance of item loss during item synthesis were tweaked on the version up that occurred on 2004/2/26.
The chance of some items being lost was lowered, while that of others was raised.

Some items that had a zero probability of being destroyed were also affected. However, the "Broken Lu Shang's Fishing Rod" and others were not changed.
Since it says some items had zero probability were affected, and that Lu Shang's was not one of the items changed I think you can safely say that losing Lu Shang's rod is impossible from synthing.

I've probably failed the lu shang synth a hundred times by now, haven't lost it yet.
It is however possible to lose it if you get interrupted while synthing, by for example zoning.

My friend lost his Lu Shang this way:
Fishing on ferry his rod breaks.
He is nearing Selbina and he attempts to repair his rod.
Because of Zoning all of his items are lots and the synth fails.
                  He loses his rod.

If you dont believe me break any rod and synth it when theres like 5 secs til you hit selbina.

Note to self. Don't repair rods after the "We are nearing Selbina/Mhaura" notice shows up.
