  • Leather Craftsman Topic ~ Post Tips Here!

Ok. I am a Leathercrafter. I'm at 11 currently. And would really like to raise my skill to 35 so I can make Ram Leather, since that seems to be a great source of income. It's going for 15k a stack on my server currently. (Ramuh). Here is what I did:

Sheep Leather - 0-5 (Dark Crystal: 1x Sheep Skin, 1x Distilled Water, 1x Windurstian Tea Leaves)

Rabbit Mantle 5-8 (Earth Crystal: 1x Grass Thread, 5x Rabbit Hide)

Solea 8-11 (Wind Crystal: 2x Sheep Leather)

I've not speant all that much so far. Infact, off the Sheep Leather I made around 60k. Rabbit mantles I lost around 20k. Solea I lost around 30k. So all in all, I've made about 10k from this craft so far.
If you have any tips, please post them here.

You can start doing Dhalmel Leather at your lvl. You will have a high rate of failure but if you go to windy or farm your own it isn't too bad. They will take you to 21 or 22. Then Parchments to about 28. Then start Ram Leather.

Thats the "quick" way of course. You will loose a considerable amount but if you have an alternate means of income you should be okay.

Always start making your next leather when it's 10 levels ahead of you, and keep making it until you cap with that item. All forms of leather actually make money, as long as the guild stock isn't full at the time you go to sell it. For dhalmel leather, definitely go and hunt your own hides, they drop really fast. Leave all of your equipment in your mog safe and only take your dagger (assuming you're going as THF). Make sure to leave 4 spaces remaining in your inventory. 1 for a stack of dark crystals, 1 for a stack of tea leaves, 1 for a stack of water, and 1 so it'll let you attempt sysntesis.

Once you get past leather and have a few in-between levels, other good power-levelers include wolf gorgets, waistbelts, leather shields (or himantes depending on the supply of lauan shields vs. lizard cesti). Later on, Beak Jerkins are pretty good cost vs. reward (sold to npc). Almost all of my crafting leveling is selling to NPC or guild. Parchment was an exception to that, as it sells to an npc for 65 gil...

Note: Do not attempt to make your own lizard cesti for himantes when you get that far. You'll make 1 in 3 pairs of Burning Cesti instead, and they don't really sell well. In the end you'll lose a lot of money and time.

Help me out. Im LV 61 Leathercraft and currently making Beak Jerkins even though they are about 9 lvls highe than me. Failure rate is average, i make about 6-7 out of 12. I was wondering can i try making Coeurl Leather at 61 since its almost same lvl as Beak Jerkin (70-71). But attleast ill be making more profit by selling it since on my server its like this.

        Beak jerkin needs this:

        2 cocatrice skins = 2k
        Sheap leather= 600 gil
        Earth crystal- 100 gil

I make about 6-7 and sell back to npc for 2100 gil. I pretty much get my money back but i still lose about 6-8k out of 30k due to failures.

Ok here is the thing, i think failure rate should be the same and it cost the same to make but making a better profit.
        COEURL LEATHER:
        1 coeurl skin- 1000 gil
        tea leaf= 12 gil?
        water - 20 gil
        Dark crystal - 280 gil

Seems to me they are cheaper to make and 1 stack sells for 40k on Asura.

        What do you think?

At lv.61, my failure rate for making couerl leather was 80% :/ It makes no sense, I've always done leather at 10 levels ahead of me, but Couerl leather was too expensive to risk that... Try making Beak Mantles to level a bit first. 2x Cockatrice Skins and a grass thread. Costs about 1700 gil to make, and sells for 3k on my server. They sell very fast too.

I started to make leather and i made 7 pieces of leather out of 16 i think. Its not expensive at all! Before that i was making beak jerkins which i wasn't failing a lot either. Anyway i think im going to stick to mantles since once i get a stack ill get money back for every failed leather.

              *bump*

I can't find a Leather guide that goes very far, including here and Allakhzam. How about some of you high level Leather crafters (/em glares at Mithrael) write one up? :p

              EDIT :

I'm an idiot. I've found some. :spin:

I think Kalgareth can attest to this. It's a lot cheaper to just buy it from the guild shop (if there's any in stock) or maybe the weapon shop.
