Yes, lotsa factors. The combo of your rod/bait/location mean everything. The link in the earlier post tells you which combos to use to catch what.

I started in Windy Woods with a bunch of Yew Rods (knowing they'd break) and insect paste for bait. Been catching moat carp and selling for 3k a stack at the AH. If I use little worms instead of paste, I catch crayfish and other stuff, so I like to stick with the paste.

I don't know if using more expensive gear will level you faster--I kind of doubt it, at least in a direct sense. I'm averaging maybe a level per RL hour spent. I did realize today that I've been missing out on bigger stuff like Gold Carp because of my disposable cheapo yew rods.

Only other advice is to watch out for the purported anti-bot code that will decrease your success if you don't zone thru 2 zones every 45 minutes.

That is true, using the most expensive lure in the wrong area will guarentee that you won't get anything. Fishing is about using the CORRECT equipment, and some are, ironically, pretty cheap.

Check out the links provided anywhere in this forum, there are databases that show the correct baits/lure for the type of fish.

As a general fact, baits will get you more bites, but you will lose a bait everytime you get a catch or lose a catch. Only rusties won't take your bait.

Lures are re-usable (hence their hefty price), but a line break will hurt, so using the most expensive lure, chances are you will lose it.

Rods factor less into the specific type of fish you catch, but rather the size of the fish, yes...i've found composite rod to be good till the high levels too, although I would recommend anyone shooting for above 50-60 to go for a lu shangs. Remember to skill your woodwork along with it though!

I was wondering if anyone can help me plan my post 30 fishing skillups? I've checked online databases and it looks like a great place to skillup would be in South Gustaberg fishing for Zafmlug Bass, Ogre Eel, and Gold Lobster. I've gone there a couple of times using my Composite and sliced sardines but have not caught any of the above fish. Is there a particular time of the day that I should try to fish for these? Or is there a better bait to use? Help is appreciated.

          Few Questions.....

          1. I read many guides most say to use the Bamb rod and little worm to skill up fast to around lvl 3-5 catching crayfish. Only problem is all I seen them suggest to go to Windurst Port and other places I cant get to yet, any good spots in Sand?

I went to port Sand and my rod broke twice in less then an hour. im going to try west Ron next.

          2. What happends when your line breaks.? Mine did twice and I kept on fishing, does it automatically replace the line or something?

          3. Is there a lvl requirement to gain a certain lvl of skill. For example can a lvl 20 character level his fishing(or any craft) to lvl 50?

          4. In fishing, when something is biting, do you have to reel it in immediately, wait a few seconds, or wait a couple of tugs?

          Or do it even matter.

You can fish for crayfish in Port Sandoria, North Sandoria, East and West Ronfaure. You will also catch moat carp using that combo except in East Ronfaure. If you want to isolate crayfish as much as possible, try East Ronfaure. My recommendation. Buy a glass fiber rod instead of bamboo and little worms fishing in Port Sandoria. You can stay there until 11 before moving onto trout and salmon in East Ronfaure.

The only affect a broken line has is losing whatever bait or lure you were using. If you had bait, it really is no different than if you had just lost the catch. If you had a lure, you just lost it. Broken lines also inform you that you came very close to breaking your rod, as whatever you had caught was too big for your rod.

All crafting skills are independent of your character level. You are free to level your crafting at level 1, provided you have the money, time, and patience.

            4. In fishing, when something is biting, do you have to reel it in immediately, wait a few seconds, or wait a couple of tugs?

            Or do it even matter.
No affect, press it whenever you want as long as you press it before you automatically lose the catch (about 15 seconds). I usually read or watch something while fishing, pressing enter whenever I get a catch and using my fishing macro.

ahh thanks for clearing that up, speaking of Macro's is there any way I can auto-fish. I be wanting to clean up my house, laundry etc.. while fishing. Any way to auto hit enter, and cast out your line again?

I know you have to move to another spot ever 45 minutes but if you have to press enter everytime you get something on your hook, I don't see to even bother, I was getting a lot of hooks last night and dont want to be running back to my controller everytime I get one so most likely I'll just stand there and wait.

Make certain you have advanced fishing image and full fishermans gear for this. If getting advanced image is a problem do your cliffing in Sarutabaruta instead.
