Is your crafting skill in any way dependent on what lvl you are?

What i want to do is lvl my main character up in blacksmithing since he is based in Bastok.

I want to lvl my mule in SanDoria in Woodworking. So will my mule be able to lvl up Woodworking to a high level still being only a lvl 1 character?

Anyone else do this?

You can, but I don't recommend it. Quite a few higher-level recipes depend on and can raise your skill in multiple Craft Skills. (For example: A Lance requires 2 Ash Lumber and 2 Steel Ingots. It is Woodworking skill cap 41, but can also raise your Smithing skill {not sure of this level, probably to 20}. )
