  • Cheap profitable gardening?

I tried gardening with 3 different pots in parallel. But up to now the results were disappointing. Especially with the fruit seeds, where I spent 9k on a stack, and got worthless little worms half of the time. So while I've read about the possibility of making money with planting tree cuttings, I'd rather try something cheaper.

Does anybody got a recipe where all of the different results you can achieve are worth more than the cost of the crystals and seeds? So it would probably have to be relatively cheap crystals, like earth or water, and relatively cheap seeds, like grain seeds.

A related question: I'm level 36 Whm, and one of my sub jobs is level 15 thief for treasure hunter. What would be my best option if I wanted to farm seeds? I've seen saprolings in La Theine and Konschtat, but they are usually heavily camped by people hunting them for xp.

Check the prices of Millioncorn on your server. It goes for about 2k on Asura. If it does on your server too, I would suggest Grain seed + wind crystal. If done corrrectly that should make 9-12 millioncorn.

go over to tahrongi canyon in the kolshushu region by windurst, saplings are there too, decent drop rate as well, get those and use the herb seed drops to grow light crystals (herb + dark) and you can grow dark crystals in the same manner (herb + light) takes like two irl days, and basically you get to a point with say 10 pots where you crank out crystals no stop if you stagger your growing periods and light crystals tend to sell rather well just because of the rarity of them at low levels, (light goes for like 900-1k per crystal on midgardsormr) and do that to fund some other gardening, and i'd avoid the ever tempting platinum ore growing because it's so over done it's a joke... i grew one batch (shortly before it was posted here) and have sold a mere 3 nuggets... yeah, that's great... but pretty much this'll be good money for a while, probably till you try to buy erase or something crazy like that...

I actually did some experiments to produce colored rocks routinely with "cheap" seeds.

          Some notes:

brass/earthen/ceramic(Didn't seem to matter which) pot + herb seeds, plant iceday, harvest iceday, no crystal

This yields approximately 40% green rocks. Lunar phase didn't seem to do much of anything here. Sadly, both green and blue rocks have lost a lot of value on my server(Midgardsormr), so growing them is no longer a worthy use of time or seeds.

You can try this using wind crystals(I'd fertilize on windsday if I were you) but I can't guarentee results. I fertilized on fireday(in error) with this and my green rock rates went down. I did, however, harvest a lot of sage from this(about 3 1/2 stacks). Each sprig sold for ~160 gil.

          An anomolous yield:

brass pot + grain seeds, plant darksday, harvest watersday, no crystal

This yielded one puffball and some junk out of 5 tries. Puffballs go for 900-1000 gil. I estimate that I would have gotten more puffballs had I harvested on firesday or darksday. Who knows?

You can also, supposedly, grow colored rocks fairly well using fruit seeds. I'd check out EriWilde's bi-lingual site for info on that.
