  • Mining

OK, I shelled out ALOT of cash for worker gloves/boots and a field tunic.

I go to yughott grotto, and I break 2 stacks of pickaxes (5k) and get about 4k worth of ore back.

People kept saying how great mining is, but I'm not seeing anything good about it.......

    What can I do?

I paid alot of cash for my miner gear, and I dont want to let it go to waste

Well I'm just a beginner miner also, I have Field Worker Boots and that's it.
I bought 1 stack of pickaxes ( for about 2k) and when to zherun mines near bastok to mine. There are tons of mining spots in there, I got a lot of iron ore. Also you should bring a stack of fire crystals with you, since ore's don't stack. You can make them into ignots. So start somewhere easy at first, raise your smithing skills aswell. Hope that helps.

If you expected to buy the gear and make all your money back in 2 packs of picks you were misinformed. That gear is an investment that will help get more profitable ore on a more frequent basis.

Also from 2 packs of 12 netting you only 4k in ore in the grotto makes me wonder if you were perhaps holding onto the wrong kind of ore. 4k is like 6 pieces of iron ore and a zinc and on a bad run I'll easily do better then that. Do you hold on to tin or copper? If so stop doing that, it's a waste of inv space. If you aren't doing that perhaps you don't go out with enough spaces in your inv.

One last thing, watch the Markets to see where certain ore sells faster. I noticed a lot of people buy zinc in bastok because the bastok AH is linked to Norg and people use zinc to raise their tenshodo fame to get ninja spell scrolls. I've seen zinc sell for as much as iron there. While in sandoria it sometimes sells for as low as 200 gil.

Asides from that just keep at it. Some trips you'll come back with several pieces of gold and sometimes a mound of zinc

        I gave up on mining.

The amount of gil I get after calculating how many pickaxes I break isn't worth it IMHO.

I have never had luck with Yughott. Not sure why. Might just have been mining there on bad days (Earthsday hates me for mining).

Now Palborough on the other hand... yowza. Mythril and Platinum. Big gil if you have the patience.

Yeah Palborough has some great payouts if you get lucky and find a mining spot. :p

The thing about the Yughotto is most of the mining spots are fairly close together so you can be in and out a lot faster then palborough. The problem is unless you get a piece of darksteel or gold or a coloured rock then you'll probably only be making 1k-3k profit per trip. However if you do get a piece of the worthwhile stuff your profits just jumped to about 10k. Which isn't bad for 20 minutes worth of work.

Palborough is more spread out, however the mining spots tend to last longer too so it's not so horrible. Mythril is nice find and with full workers set (without the legs cuz they don't do shit for mining) I'm guaranteed at least 2 pieces of mythril per stack of picks which right there pays my expenses. So whatever else I find is gravy. A good Pal run takes about as long as 2 Yughotto runs so when you look at it there isn't much difference in the general money you will make at either of them. If you get platinum though.... *drool*

I managed to make the money i paid for my mining equip back, but i've pretty much given up as well. Most places you can mine have the points to few and far between and Zerhun Mines are now so over croweded you're lucky if you see a point every 20 minutes or so.

This is a matter I've found to be widespread. Miners don't cooperate very much, thinking they lose out on profits. BUt really, if you can get together and communicate which points most recently appeared and got mined out, you can boost your efficiency majorly, making it so you all get out of there with full inventories sooner. Especially in a place as spread-out as Palborough. Went in there with two friends, each of us covering about 7 spots each. It went blindingly fast.

*** I have the Palborough Map, but where are all the mining points in Palborough so I can efficiiently mine there?? ****

Is there a link or something?

                  Thanks

With a full set of mining gear profit is pretty much guaranteed. When I mine in Yughott I get gold almost every single time. The same applies to darksteel. That's 15k or more right there. Then there is the iron, the zinc and the colored rocks. Some rocks sell up to 6k, which is nice too.

Mining is a horrible source of gil - do it if you're working up tradeskills - don't waste your time if you're trying to make cash. There are much easier ways to get gil, even killing certain monsters and selling their drops to vendors will net more cash in a period of time.

Mining is the best way to get gil IMO. Full mining gear, 5 stacks of pick axes, and some sneak/invis potions and head over to Ifrit's Cauldron, and you'll be rich in no time. First trip there i got 3 darksteel and one adaman. im my server, adaman sells for 100k, so that more than pays for everything.

Well ok, let me rephrase - mining in any place but ifrits isn't worth it for gil.

Something I’ve noticed after trying all the different mining locations was this… Zeruhn seems the easiest and quickest return on good ores IF there are not a lot of people there. My experiences with mining have taught me that if there are lots of people running around mining… just leave. All you will find are pebbles and broken pickaxes. I can walk out of Zeruhn with 8+ iron, 6+ zinc, 1+ Darksteel, and Copper (that I usually toss if my inv is close to full) on a good run. That’s usually from one stack of pickaxes. Everywhere else I have gone, I break more pickaxes than I ever get back in ores. My conclusion: if you try to make mining your sole income… you will lose more money than you make.

If you use mining to add to your other sources of income and refining skills, then look for times when mines are not crowded and work around those. Also people make the mistake of trying to rail the market by inflating prices and waiting for the money to roll in. With mining I have found it best to refine or sell the ore off quick. You can make twice the money if you sell quick rather than waiting to rail the market.
