  • Good way to start out goldsmithing

I've basically wanted to take a break from leveling up for a while and I wanna take up Goldsmithing.

Any of you guys know a good way to start so that I can gain some levels?

BTW I only have about 40k gil on me.

Well, I have been mining a lot lately to get enough to buy Phalanx. As a result of mining, I got a lot of zinc ores. I took one zinc ore and combined them with 3 coppers and a fire crystal for a brass ignot. This got me up to somewhere around level 7 or 8. This is as far as I've gotten in goldsmithing, however.

Bluefire, if you make those brass ingots into Brass sheets
(Brass ingot + Fire Crystal) you can get a little more skill off of them.

Then 3 Brass sheets + fire =1 Brass Flowerpot.

If you use a Yagudo necklace + lighting crystal you get a copper ingot.

Then you can use those ingot to turn them into a copper hairpin with a wind crystal and a lightning crystal to turn them back into a copper ingo. I heard this can take you to 7 skill. Getting that much crystals is easy, just kill thunder elementals in konschtat and wind elemental in latheine and tahrongi canyon.

If you farm your own necklace in giddeus for cheap, you can level goldsmith to about 7 with this trick.

can you actually break down copper hairpins with lightning crystals? especially at low skill? I hear nothing but high failure rates with break downs from the blacksmithing thread.

            Thanks Yyg!

You will have a fairly high failure rate with breaking down materials with Lightning Crystals if you are not well above the skill required to make the item.

I would, while making Brass Hairpins, break them back down into ingots since I otherwise intended to take the loss selling them back to the guild. I succeeded on average about 1/6th of the time, and of the failures, about half resulted in the loss of a hairpin.

hmm. i'm at lvl 3 GS now so i've maxed out on copper ignots. i can do copper hairpins fairly easily now, which should take me to 7. do you think I'll be able to do the break downs (back to copper ignots) at lvl 7?

btw, here's my intended strat to get to 13 quickly (haven't planned beyond that yet).

0-3 copper ignots - got to 3 in 2 stacks
                3-7 copper hairpins
<- if breakdown's work at this lvl, break hairpins back down and sell ignot stacks
                7-9 brass ignots
                9-11 brass sheets
                11-13 brass scales

                Thanks Yyg!

i would advice against your last step with the scales. scales are great for leveling up GS but it's almost impossible to get rid of them via AH. selling it to the guild is also like throwing them away. ur alternative is to keep them and use them to make armor pieces, but again, these low lvl armor just don't sell well, and you will end up having a LOT of these armor filling up your mog house.

make hairpins instead, and break them with lighting crystals and start over again. you will lose some from the fails, but it's by far faster and less stressful ^^

I just recently leveled my goldsmith up, and I would suggest that you take brass ingots and go ahead and turn them into sheets during levels 7-9, then start using the sheets to make flowerpots.
It's not that your opinion doesn't count, it's just wrong.
