Why arn't I gaining levs in leathermaking?

I am currently lev 2 and have made many stacks of sheep leather but yet to gain any skill points. Why?

im pretty sure crafting sheep leather will only take you to lvl2. switch to sheep wool, which will take you to lvl 4, and still make you some nice profits.
