  • Best rod for moat carp? (single hook vs. Mithran)

    I have heard that both of these rods (Single Hook Rod and Mithran) are unbreakable in most moat carp zones (windurst ones). I started off using Glass Fiber rods but they broke too often for my taste at 2k a piece. I eventually saved up enough for a mithran rod 23k right now on my server and have been using it for about 8 hours without a break. The only problem is it seems to catch a bit less moat carp than the glass rods.

    Has anyone fishing used the S.H. rod for moat carp? Did you get any breaks? How does the catch ratio compare to Mithran and Glass Fiber?

    Ofcourse LuShang's Rod would be ideal...but I am long ways from that right now.

    I have great luck on moat carp or most things with a
    composite rod.

    It did not cost all that much either, while it sells back for MORE broken ( to players.) I think I paid 9 k for it.

    It also doesn't have "fish too small for the rod", that often. I've fished a bunch and no breaks.

      Also using the Compsite Rod (does well). I do however get the 'to small for rod' msg often (fishing in only Windhurst Woods and N.San d'Oria), but I'm only looking for moat anyway. I hear the Mithran is better, but I have no experience with it.

        Has anyone fishing for moat carp with the Single Hook S.H. rod ever got the message about the fish being to small for the rod?

          I know in Windurst Woods you can get Copper Rings in the moat (a waste of bait if you ask me). It could just be the rings that are too small for your rods.

          Grrr I need a Mithran rod lol *starts saving*

            I received that "too small" message last night when using my SH Rod. I caught a Moat Carp and when I fished again the message came up.

              I have both the S.H. and the Mithran rods and have received the message about whatever I caught being too small for the rod with both of them. I fish in Windhurst and Sandoria and have gotten the message in both places. I catch the same things with both of these rods.

              Also, I paid about 9k for my Mith rod from the AH instead of the 23 the vendor wants. They are just really hard to come by at the AH so you have to check often.

                I just buy glass fiber rods for 2k, and sell them for 1.4k when they break.. its not that bad considering they usually last me days before breaking.

                Make sure you're fishing with insect paste too^^

                  When you catch junk such as rings/buckets, it does not consume bait.

                    I bought the single hook rod to try it out. I kept reading that it was good for moat carp so I tried it, but I did not like it. I kept getting the "fish is too small for this rod" message too much. I was losing a lot of catches so I decided to get the mithran. I get that message still but not as much as the single hook rod.

                    I only tried it in zeruhn mines though. I didn't try it any other place. maybe because I was catching a lot of tricolored carp and they are smaller. I don't know. I just can't wait till i get my lu shang rod.

                      I've been using a S.H. rod, and I almost always get "Fish too small" messages, no matter what bait I've used. The oddest thing is that I still catch crayfish with it...........

                        if you can go to sandoria. glass fiber and insect paste in the knights well in west ronfaure has never broke my rod.

                        I dunno if this helps any but i have a japanese friend with like 93 fishing and he says this:

                        small fish: Lu Shang or Carbon Rod
                        large fish(freshwater): mithran rod
                        large fish(salt water): composite rod

                        I dunno if there is any truth to this though @_@;

                          I stick to a Bamboo with worms. i take in about 2 stacsk a day cause i get that nasty error "syntheseis canceled. this is too high for our current skilllevel" or something like that when i try insect ball paste. my bamboo rod still hasnt broken in 3days. go cheap and get a bamboo. on a side note, whats the average amount of carp caught daily with your rods?

                            I use Bamboo and I always get my quota of 3 stacks of moat.

                            4 stacks of insect paste @300 = 1200
                            4 Bamboo Rods @332 = 1328

                            With that I get about 3 stacks of moat, which sells on my server for 3000 gil/stack. I usually break on average 2-3 rods.

                            So Cost = 2528 gil
                            AH fees = 15 gil
                            Sales = 9000 gil

                            A 6457 gil profit per a day.

                            BTW I'm lvl 6 fishing.

                              Aside from Lu Shang's rod, the Carbon Fiber rod is the most durable rod you can use to catch small fish like Carp. You will never get the dreaded "fish too small for your rod" message with it. You'll get that message with rods like the SH, Clothespole, Mithran and Composite because these rods are made for catching big fish like Giant Catfish and Bhefhel Marlin.

                              Unfortunately, the Carbon Fiber rods can break if you catch crap like rusty leggings and such. I think that the Glass Fiber rod is a better deal because is very close to the Carbon in quality and durability, but you can recoup more of your investment when they break.

                              If you are in save money mode, If found that both the composite rod and Mithran will serve you well. You'll loose some carp, but you'll never have to sell a broken rod at the AH.
