You can grow them but they are more of a lucky by-product than a common result.

I've read that purposely -neglecting- your plant (by not examining it) can cause more crystals, but i don't know how true this is.

But out of 10 pots, don't expect more than 2-3 pots to produce crystal crops for most combinations. Maybe there are some combos that are particularly good for crystals but i have not found them.

I always plant, feed, and harvest on the proper days. Like i said, perhaps doing the opposite (gardening badly) yields more crytals.

A lot of things affect the outcomes of your harvests, depending which day you feed crystals and which ones you use etc. etc.

My first time gardening using a Ceramic pot, I planted Dark crystal on Lightsday and ended up with Light crystals........There's randomness to it but also other variables that would probably eliminate other results depending on the days you harvest, plant, sow seeds etc.

On Eriwilde's site I believe the biggest fire crystal producing recipe is brass pot + veg seed + water crystal. His page says planting on either light or dark day makes crystals more likely(I'd guess light is better) and feeding the crystal on light or dark day may also make crystal more probable. I'm trying this combo on 2 pots right now, planted and fed on light days, planting moon was 75% not sure which direction though and feeding moon was 25% waxing cresent. Harvest is coming in about 2 days.

i have recently brought a lot more brass pots to increase my planting capability. but i have not yet planted cause i have some questions? on the site: http://ffxi.game-host.org/eriwilde/f...on/index.html#

it gives a list of products. one of the best products i can get using cheap material seems to be the brass pot + earth crystal + vegetable seed =

                  Lightening Crystal x 6-8

                  Yellow Rock x 1

                  Frost Turnip x 6-10

                  Little Worm x 8-12

now i would like it if yellow rocks come out right? they would seem to net me the most profit. but i don't know how i should go about harvesting to get that particular product. anybody know?
if anything, i would at least like to make my money back if the thing fails. do you think the other products would pay for the vegetable seed and earth crystal? hpow much would little worms sell for? thanks.

Eriwilde's most awesome site lists all the possibilities. If you do some gardening you can recognize what is the "normal" crop from the lists. For that recipe it's frost turnips. Under normal situations you'll get mostly frost turnips, but out of 10 maybe 1-2 crystals maybe 1-2 rocks.

Eriwilde has some tips on how to get better items and also rocks. Maybe you can increase them.

But in general, i would not rely on getting rocks if that's all you want out of gardening.

you think frost turnips could get me a nice profit - paying for the price of the vegetable seed and the crystal? how much do you tihnk its worth?

so what are your guys favorite money making gardening activities? ive seen people talk about growing light crystals. which of the recipes seem the most reliable to you? i ve seen the recipes, but one of the prodects that seem to come out seem to be rock crystals. and i dont want that! anybody know the best method?

I have gotten Light Crystals fairly consecutively by Using Ceramic and brass pots. Veg seeds in the ceramic, grain or herb in the Brass. Plant on light day, feed dark crystal on light day, harvest on light day. I also try to check them on a light day if that has any affect. Basically I try to super charge them with light energy.

I only scanned the thread -- but I didn't see anyone answer your question of WHERE to buy them; don't get them from the AH, there's a little shop in the Mines distric that sells them (Boyd's Knicknacks or something close to that).

                              well

Out of like 6 plantings I've gotten crystals 2 times, and 18 popotos and such other things, so not real lose.

                              17 earth, 4 ice.

I will wait quite a while before I try the neglect the plant theory.

Make sure it's not a translation error for Wait longer to Harvest the plant, so the harvest is larger.

I am now starting to log every single thing in I do with my plants, and do everything the same, given my time limits with having to go to work, and sleep

                              That is my suggestion.

Log time of planting and element day

Time of crystal feed, element day and type of crystal.

Time of Harvest, again with element day.

There is lots of info out there, at the FFXI Vault threads there is a big thread on Gardening listing which elements are strong against each other to help you with Timing.

I might look it up later and post it here, but I already printed it out, so don't have it handy in online form.
