I've heard to go with a Fastwater rod with a Sabiki rig to start out for the first several levels. It just catches small fish. I've fished over 100 times so far and I only broke one rod.

What country are you in? I know some good places and bait for Sandoria.

i would try bamboo rod and sabiki rig, no need for fastwater, it's harder to find some places too

Use insect balls in the moat on the bridge going to the residential area. You can catch some pretty valuable fish. Tell me how it turns out. I'm not really sure which rod to use. Not a fastwater though.

yeah, ive just spent the money on sabiki rig and fast water rod and i didn't even get a bite in like 30 minutes...

btw, i was fishing at the sandoria moat, port, and the lake in west ronfaure.

For the moat in Sandoria try using a bamboo rod. You don't need a fastwater pole for the moat. Also, try using insect balls there. See if that helps.

thats because it is the wrong bait to use in that area....use insect balls for bait in that area and i guarantee you will get alot of bites.

and no need for a fast water fishing rod as it is not fast waters there....i have had the best results with carbon fishing rod...in these areas.

the reason you use the fastwater rod is not becuase of fast currents, but becuase it is much more durable than the bamboo, yew, or willow. you wont catch any freshwater fish with a sabiki rig (you may get lucky), so if you want to use the fastwater+sabiki combo, you need to fish salt water. if you are using insect balls for bait and fishing in fresh water at low levels (below 5), you will break your pole. you will actually even break fastwater rods and poles for catching big fish. your best bet is to fish for quus, bastore sardines, and cobalt jellyfish in salt water with your fastwater+sabiki combo until level 5. after that, get your insect balls and a carbon rod and fish fresh water. in my town i caught moat carp and tricolored carp all the way to level 10. let me remind you, fishing skill does not rise quickly, and you still miss LOTS of fish even at high levels.

                          wow!
thanks for that info, i'm going to try it

Also around what time is the best fishing? Like the number, not when the sun comes up.... i'd awesome from like 6-9 or something correct?

so what u are saying is, even at low lvls i will break a tarutaru pole? cause i never broke a bamboo in the ocean cause of the sabaki rig. as soon as i used my tarutaru and fwrod in the moat in windurst waters, i broke both of them. im lvl 1 in fishing. also is there anything i can fish for beside the sardines and quus? cause thats real tedious and your skill doesnt go up that fast(it goes a lil faster when fishing with a higher lvl pole for higher lvl fish). plus i made like 4800 for a set of 12 moat carps and plus like 5 others at 300 gil a piece. at my newbie lvl that was a big help, it was worth my poles breaking. also i did fish for a while at the moat on the tarutaru pole(like at least fished through 4 sets of 12insect bait) but as soon as it broke and i pulled my fwr it broke on the next try. oh also are there any good spots in windurst, w/e sab areas to fish?

I've been using a glass fiber rod. 2 k at auction house and
                              the strat guide says

"steady catches" and "doesn't break when you catch large items or rusty subliger." So far so good. I've been pulling in the moat carp around windhurst waters and moat carp/dark bass in west Sarb.

All the Windhurst non port zones have moat carp, while the port has Bastore sardine, Quus and kelp.

I've been using insect balls for moat carp, though really I don't see much difference between them and little worms which are cheap. In west sarab I was using little worms since I seem to catch stuff more, though its about half dark bass and half moat carp. This is all at skill level 9, as a recruit.

A nice lil spot in west sarab. is right out of port windhurst to the west. THen you simply go a lil north east, where you see that lil inlet on the map. So its pretty close to windhurst. Nice lil pond thing.

The taru rod is said to be good for handling small fish, not powerful enough for anything powerful.
