Mog Bonanza Winning Numbers Announced! (06/30/2008)

Ladies and Gentlemen! The winning numbers for the FINAL FANTASY XI 6th Anniversary Mog Bonanza event have now been randomly drawn under strict supervision.

From today, the winning numbers will be announced via a system message upon logging into the game. The same message can also be brought up by inputting the /servmes (/smes) command. So what are you waiting for? Log in and check the winning numbers now!

Prize money and items will be available for collection between 0:00 on July 2 (PDT) and 1:00 on August 1 (PDT). If you happen to be one of the lucky winners, speak to a Bonanza Moogle at one of the following locations while in possession of the winning marble (or marbles!):
Port San d'Oria (I-9) / Port Bastok (L-8) / Port Windurst (F-6) / Chocobo Circuit (H-8)

Learn more about the Mog Bonanza here.
*Please remember that all prizes won in the Mog Bonanza are virtual goods and cannot be redeemed for real-world money.
----------------------------------------------------------
The numbers are:

Rank 5: 1
Rank 4: 44
Rank 3: 379
Rank 2: 1017
Rank 1: 47396

So, any winners? I won 2 rank 4s with 20 marbles, so a very nice profit. I'm debating right now what to actually turn them in for.

Special Task Force Report (06/24/2008)
Jun 24, 2008 - 4:11 AM - by Taskmage
Today's report will outline our actions conducted from May 28, 2008 to June 24, 2008 in dealing with players violating the user agreement, as well as details on the activities, results, and goals of the Special Task Force.

Click here for details on the Special Task Force's activities in dealing with players violating the FINAL FANTASY XI user agreement.
  • Regarding Unauthorized Third-party Access
In order to decrease the damage caused by unauthorized access, security for all PlayOnline services has been strengthened. In the June 6th version update, the following features were added: Security Settings, which enable users to improve their PlayOnline password's security, and a software keyboard that is effective against a kind of spyware known as keyloggers. These measures were only introduced to the Windows version of PlayOnline.

However, to prevent unauthorized access before it can happen, users must understand it and take effective preventative measures.

In addition to the unauthorized access page which explains preventative measures against third-party access as well as support provided by Square Enix, the latest important information can be found in "Important Notices" under "Information." The information regarding unauthorized access will help you in protecting your account.

Click here for information on dealing with unauthorized access.
Click here for the latest important notice, "Vulnerability Issues Regarding Flash Player."
  • Special Task Force Activities and Future Plans
Since last month, the Special Task Force has been strengthening activities against violators of the user agreement involved in illegal fishing and enhanced character movement.
Players involved in illegal fishing use tools to move to locations that players cannot normally move to in order to avoid being attacked by monsters. However, by strengthening our actions against both groups of violators, it has become difficult for them to earn gil. As a result, the number of players who purchase a new account and create a new character so that they can continue their illegal activity after they've been banned has significantly decreased.

Based on the results of our investigation, around 4,220 PlayOnline accounts were terminated while around 1,370 accounts were temporarily suspended.
Additionally, we have increased the number of mass bannings against certain PlayOnline violations in order to prevent illegal acts.

Details of the violations are as follows:

Week of June 1, Approx. 410 cases
Week of June 8, Approx. 350 cases

- Accounts from people that were previously confirmed to have RMT connections, or that had violated the user agreements but re-subscribed to PlayOnline.
June 24, Approx. 40 cases

The termination of these accounts has led to the removal of approximately 1.8 billion gil from circulation.

We would like to remind players that as well as adversely affecting game balance, the use of third-party tools or cheats can also have consequences that are not immediately obvious, such as introducing damaging viruses, and comprising the security of private account details. Celestial Nights—the romantic event based on the timeless tale of love and tragedy between Prince Yahiko and Princess Amdina—will soon be here, kupo! For this year's celebration, in each of the three nations, two actors are scheduled to promenade in their respective locales as the prince and princess on a royal rendezvous. ... Who on Vana'diel am I trying to fool, kupo? None of the actors have been able to concentrate, and the rehearsals have been a right mess. If we don't do something about it, and soon, the event is doomed to fail. But...what could a single moogle like me possibly do...kupo?

What manner of ill fortune has befallen the Mog House Management Union (MHMU) this time? Click here to find out.

*Celestial Nights is scheduled to commence at 1:00 on June 27 (PDT) and conclude at 1:00 on July 8 (PDT).

You produced flyers for Celestial Nights?
Splendid! May I have the honor of examining them, kupo?

Heightened Security on the Windows PlayOnline Viewer
Jun 09, 2008 - 11:22 AM - by Gobo
Due to the sudden increase in unauthorized access on the internet, PlayOnline has decided to heighten the security for all of its related services. As part of these security measures, we have introduced the following features.

- The software keyboard
We have implemented a special field for entering passwords (PlayOnline passwords and PlayOnline mail passwords) and other important information through a software-based keyboard that uses the mouse for text entry.

The software keyboard is displayed when you select one of the password-entry fields on the PlayOnline Viewer. Because each key is entered by clicking with the mouse, this software is effective against a type of spyware known as a keylogger that is capable of stealing information entered through regular keyboards.
You can, of course, still enter your password with a keyboard as usual, but we recommend using the software keyboard to improve your private information’s safety. The software keyboard provides safety and security for users who enter their passwords each time without saving them.

- Security Settings
We introduced "Security Settings" to manage PlayOnline passwords with even further heightened security.

Because passwords entered on the PlayOnline Viewer are encrypted and saved to the hard drive to prevent other computers from decrypting them, even if the corresponding file is stolen, no password information will be accessible.
To advance our security technology even further in dealing with spyware, we have made the encryption key for each computer randomly generated and saved to a destination folder the user designates in "Security Settings." For example, if the user saves the key file to an external device such as a USB memory card and disconnects the device when it is not needed, security will be considerably strengthened.

"Security Settings" has been added to the PlayOnline Viewer's Login menu. After selecting it and designating a destination folder for the encryption key, a file name composed of random alphanumeric characters will be created in that folder.

*The encrypted PlayOnline password and encryption key will not only be accessed when starting the PlayOnline Viewer and logging in, but will also be periodically accessed while playing an online game or using the Viewer. In particular, be careful about the following things:
- If you have saved the encryption key to an external device or a network drive, do not disconnect the device while playing a game or using the PlayOnline Viewer.
- If you have saved the file... [Read More]

New missions have been added for the Wings of the Goddess expansion.
image

Several new quests have been added.

Nomad moogles and delivery NPC services are now available in Selbina and Mhaura.

When changing citizenship from one nation to another, a player's completed supply run quest data is now saved in the same manner as mission rank and Conquest information.

Any of the three "Escort for Hire" quests may now be undertaken simultaneously with the quests "All by Myself" and "The Big One."

Certain job level requirements must now be fulfilled in order to receive offers for the following quests (the requirements vary from quest to quest):
Message on the Wind / The Lost Book / The Tigress Stirs / The Fumbling Friar / Evil at the Inlet / Requiem for the Departed

Characters under level 20 can no longer procure items from logging in the following areas:
Mamook / Caedarva Mire / Jugner Forrest (S) / Fort Karugo-Narugo (S)

The following changes have been implemented to fellows:

* imageA new limit break quest has been added, making it possible to increase your adventuring fellow's level to 70.
* In the quest "Unlisted Qualities," it is now possible to choose your own combination of face type, personality, and height for your fellow.
Players who have obtained a signal pearl prior to this version update can access the above new content by returning their signal pearl to the relevant NPC and restarting the quest.
Those who had already commenced one of the following quests need to complete all three in order to obtain and return their signal pearl:
Unlisted Qualities / Girl in the Looking Glass / Mirror, Mirror
* A new point system has been added to fellows. The more time you spend with your fellow, the more your "fellow points" will accumulate. These points can be exchanged for items for yourself and your fellow.
* New fellow personalities have been added.
* Fulfilling certain requirements will make it possible for you to summon your fellow to certain areas... [Read More]
